This policy explains what personal information True Crime in Context collects when you visit crimeincontext.com, subscribe to our newsletter or join The Club — and how we use, share and protect it.

Who we are

True Crime in Context (“we”, “us”, “the show”) is an independent podcast and the website at crimeincontext.com. For any question about this policy or your data, you can reach us at hello@crimeincontext.com. We are the data controller for the information described below.

Information we collect

We only collect what we need to run the show and stay in touch with you.

—Information you give us. Your email address when you subscribe to the newsletter; your name, email and billing details when you join The Club; and anything you choose to include when you email us (a tip, a question, feedback).—Payment information. If you become a member, your card details are collected and processed directly by our third-party payment provider. We never see or store your full card number.—Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our host and analytics record basic technical data when you visit — your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed and referring links. See our Cookies Notice for detail.

How we use your information

—To send you the newsletter and let you know when a new episode drops (only if you subscribed).—To run The Club — deliver member benefits, process payments and manage your membership.—To respond to messages, tips and questions you send us.—To understand which episodes and pages resonate, and improve the show.—To keep the site secure and to meet our legal obligations.

Our legal bases

Where data-protection law (such as the GDPR/UK GDPR) applies, we rely on the following legal bases:

—Consent — for sending you the newsletter. You can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing.—Contract — to provide and bill your Club membership.—Legitimate interests — to measure audience with privacy-respecting analytics, secure the site and reply to you.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that make the show work, and only as far as they need it:

—Our email delivery provider, to send the newsletter.—Our payment provider, to process membership payments.—Our website host and analytics provider, to serve and measure the site.—Our podcast host and the platforms that distribute the audio (Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, YouTube and similar).

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights, users or the public.

Third-party platforms

When you listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube or another platform, or follow us on social media, your activity on those services is governed by their privacy policies, not ours. We only receive the aggregate audience statistics those platforms choose to share with creators.

How long we keep it

We keep newsletter data until you unsubscribe, and membership data for as long as you are a member plus the period we are required to keep financial records. Analytics data is retained in aggregate. We delete or anonymise information when we no longer need it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

—Access the personal information we hold about you.—Correct anything that is inaccurate.—Delete your information, or ask us to stop using it.—Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time — every email has a one-click link.—Object to, or restrict, certain processing, and to receive a copy of your data.

International transfers

We are based in Argentina and work with providers in other countries, including the United States and the European Union. Where your information is transferred across borders, we rely on those providers’ standard safeguards to protect it.

Children

The show deals with real crime and is intended for an adult audience. Our site and newsletter are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us their data, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reputable providers and reasonable technical measures to protect your information. No method of transmission over the internet is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe and to act quickly if anything goes wrong.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the show grows. When we make a material change, we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, let subscribers know.
