True Crime in Context is a true-crime podcast retelling Argentina’s most defining criminal cases in English — one outsider, one local, one case at a time.
True Crime in Context retells the Argentine cases everyone in the country knows and almost no one in English does. Each episode pairs an outsider — a psychologist who came to these stories cold — with a local who grew up with them, to tell not just what happened, but the culture, media, power and systems around it.
True Crime in Context: Argentina is a narrative true-crime podcast built on one idea: most true crime stops at the crime, and this show begins where it stops — with context. Every episode is a single Argentine case, retold in English by an outsider and a local: Aileen, a psychologist and writer who learned these stories from scratch, and Joaquín, an Argentine audio engineer who lived near them. Recorded in Argentine Patagonia, the show treats the people in these stories as people — restrained, factual, never lurid. Season one runs seven cases, from a kidnapping that rewrote a nation’s laws to a killing filmed from every angle.
The two chairs
The hosts
A psychologist and writer, Aileen came to these cases the way most English-speaking listeners will — knowing nothing, needing to understand everything. She carries the empathy and the narrative, and asks the obvious questions a country stopped asking years ago.
Argentine and an audio engineer, Joaquín grew up with these headlines on the kitchen table. He brings the texture you cannot Google — the slang, the fear, the politics of the moment each crime happened in — and engineers the sound of the show.

Story angles
The cases English true crime never tells
Argentina’s most defining criminal cases are unknown to English audiences. This is the first show built to close that gap.
Two chairs: an outsider and a local
Distance and proximity in the same conversation — a psychologist who learned these stories cold, and an Argentine who lived near them.
Recorded at the end of the world
An English-language show about Argentina, made by two people raising their kids in Argentine Patagonia.
Context over gore
Most true crime stops at the crime. This one begins where it stops — restrained, factual, and respectful of the people involved.
Cases that changed a country
Reforms that rewrote the penal code, a death that ended the draft, a murder that became a symbol of press freedom — crime as the hinge of Argentine history.
How we handle the cases
Editorial approach
We report on real people and real events. We aim to be accurate, restrained and fair, and to respect the presumption of innocence — distinguishing carefully between what is alleged, charged, convicted or acquitted.
We treat the people in these stories as people. No gore for its own sake, no lurid re-enactment. The show is in English, but the country it comes from is not — and you will hear that in every episode.
