THE CASE

In January 2020, Fernando Báez Sosa, an 18-year-old law student and son of Paraguayan immigrants, was beaten to death by a group of rugby players outside a nightclub in Villa Gesell. Phones filmed almost all of it.

The trial became the most-watched in modern Argentine history, and a national reckoning with class, race, group violence and juvenile sentencing. Five of the attackers received life sentences.
