THE CASE

On 27 October 2002, María Marta García Belsunce, 50, was found dead in the bathroom of her home inside the Carmel country club in Pilar. Her death was first attributed to an accident, and she was buried without an autopsy.

When the body was later exhumed, investigators found she had been shot. What followed became one of Argentina’s longest and most contested judicial sagas — convictions, acquittals, and a question the country has never fully closed.
